Cars Affected by Emissions Fraud
It is alleged that for over 6 years Volkswagen Group of America misled the public, its customers and the government regarding the efficacy of its 4 Cylinder Diesel Engine Vehicles sold under the Volkswagen and Audi brands. These vehicles were marketed as so called “clean diesel” vehicles, high performing, fuel efficient and environmentally friendly. Unfortunately, it now appears that Volkswagen’s clean diesel vehicles are not environmentally friendly and emit noxious pollutants up to 40 times the legal limit allowed under federal and state law. It is alleged that Volkswagen installed a sophisticated software algorithm, or “defeat device” in certain vehicles that instructs them to cheat on emissions tests. In other words, the emissions controls are deactivated and the vehicles emit extremely high and illegal levels of pollutants. These vehicles include vehicles sold in the United States with a 4 Cylinder Type EA 189 Diesel Engine which emit high and illegal levels of pollutants; are equipped with a defeat device enabling them to bypass emission regulations; and cannot deliver the advertised combination of low emissions fuel economy and high performance. These vehicles include the following:
1. 2009-2015 Volkswagen Jetta;
2. 2009-2014 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen;
3. 2012-2015 Volkswagen Beetle;
4. 2012-2015 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible;
5. 2010-2015 Volkswagen Golf;
6. 2015 Volkswagen Golf Sportwagen;
7. 2012-2015 Volkswagen Passat; and
8. 2010-2015 Audi A3.
Volkswagen has admitted the device was present in approximately 482,000 vehicles with more than 11 million vehicles sold worldwide, including vehicles sold in Pennsylvania.
